Eli Swirsky
President

 

Eli formed Torgan Construction Limited in the 70's together with his father, the late Mr. Zwi Swirsky, who contributed his 50 years of experience in land development and construction in Israel to the new Canadian company. Before commencing his real estate career, Eli attended York University where he enrolled in an Honors program for BA in Computer Science.

 


 
Sam Cohen
Co-owner and General Manager

 

Sam joined Eli in the early 80's and together they founded The Torgan Group. Prior to joining Torgan, Sam was the founder and partner of two factories; one in Israel and one in Canada that built machines for the food manufacturing industry. The Canadian factory, based on superior technology developed by Sam, became the largest of its kind in North America. Sam holds a B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the Technion in Haifa, Israel.

 


 
Maor Cohen
Deputy CEO and Chief Investment Officer

 

Maor joined Torgan in 2009 and brings a broad range of real estate experience. He has acted as a senior analyst at Ernst and Young's transaction advisory services team in Manhattan, analyzing over $1 Billion in real estate transactions throughout North America, as a senior consultant for a boutique asset manager Landmark Advisors, where he created a fund strategy that included sub-lending, deeds in trust, and structured credit. He has worked on a variety of building types including: international airports, hospitals, office towers, high and mid-rise residential towers, malls, industrial buildings, hotels (including brands such as Four Seasons) for some of North America's largest investors and developers. Maor holds a Master in Real Estate Development from Columbia University in the City of New York, where he won the highest academic achievement award, and a Master in Architecture from McGill University where he and was a Philip J Turner finalist. He also holds a Certificate in Financial Analysis and Portfolio Management from University of Toronto and holds AIA, OAA, LEED AP designations.

 


 
Philip Duchen
Chief Operating Officer

 

Philip joined Torgan in 2012. As Chief Operating Officer, Philip is involved with both the development and property management aspects of Torgan's operations. He has over 35 years of practical and managerial experience in construction, administration, property development, and management in both private and public companies. Philip graduated in 1979 from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa with a B.Sc., (Civil Eng.) and immigrated to Canada in 1988.

 


 
Ornella Richichi
Chief Development Officer

 

Ornella recently joined Torgan and brings over 25 years of real estate development experience to our team. As Chief Development Officer, Ornella will oversee all aspects of development as it relates to the existing and expanding Torgan portfolio. Ornella holds a Bachelor of Environmental Studies in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Waterloo. Most recently, Ornella held the position of Executive Vice President, Development at SmartCentres. In her 20 years there, she was responsible for a portfolio of over 100 properties, worth in excess of $800 million dollars and was directly responsible for the development of over 8 million square feet of commercial space. Prior to SmartCentres, Ornella practiced as a professional planner for one of the highest regarded planning firms in Toronto, where she provided expert planning opinions to a variety public and private clients and provided evidence at Ontario Municipal Board hearings. Ornella is very active in the real estate industry and most recently was Co-chair of the Women’s Leadership Initiative with a focus on the advancement of women in the real estate industry. She is a member of BILD, ICSC and the Urban Land Institute and has been a member of the ULI Management Committee.

 


 
Ross Cannata
Vice President, Investments

 

Ross joined The Torgan Group as Vice President in May 2017 with direct involvement in the management and operations of this private, entrepreneurial company including acquisition/disposition analysis and recommendations related to investment properties.

In the two previous decades, Ross was President, Ross Cannata & Associates Inc. based in Oakville, Ontario. This past experience included appraisal and consulting of investment properties, financial and market analysis, lease reviews, rental studies, acquisition/disposition analysis and recommendations, narrative report preparations, expert witness testimony and other initiatives. Ross completed more than 450 medical office building appraisal and consulting assignments, and it is estimated that he has reviewed more than 10,000 medical office leases.

In February 1988, the Appraisal Institute of Canada granted Ross the professional designation of Accredited Appraiser, Canadian Institute (AACI) and Professional Appraiser (P. App).

 


 
Heather Goodall
Vice President, Leasing

 

Heather joined the Torgan Group in 2017 after an extensive career in commercial leasing, including 11 years as the Director of Leasing for an international healthcare consulting firm where she facilitated over 600 leases for medical practitioners throughout North America including lease negotiation, tenant financial analysis, mediation and training. At Torgan Heather heads the leasing department, where she handles lease negotiations and tenant relations. She holds an MBA from the Schulich School of Business and the Ontario Real Estate Association License.

 


 
Shoukut Hossain
Controller

 

Shoukut joined The Torgan Group in May 2005. His responsibilities not limited to financial reporting, supervising CAM reconciliation, forecasting, cash flow, project cost monitoring, due diligence, annual audit, taxes, trust, acquisition/disposition analysis, review year end package and recommendations related to investment properties. Direct involvement with management and operations of this private, entrepreneurial company including external accountants and CRA audit for entire property portfolio. He also oversees all financial aspects encompassing entire portfolio of the company. Shoukut worked almost eight years at small and mid-sized Chartered Accounting firms in Montreal and Toronto in various positions and three years in manufacture accounting and finance departments. He received Outstanding Graduate Award by Dalton McGuinty, Premier, and Government of Ontario and also received Award of Excellence by Forensic CPA Society (USA). Shoukut holds professional designation of RPA from Canada, CMA from India & Australia and FCPA from USA.

 


 
Kurt Gummer
Senior Property Manager

 

Kurt joined the Torgan Group in 2005. Kurt's role as a Senior Property Manager ranges from operations, tenant services, leasing and accounting. Kurt's portfolio consits of twelve properties of mixed commercial and medical buildings which he manages. Prior to joining Torgan Kurt worked for Brookfield Properties where he filled a variety of roles. Kurt has a BES from Seneca College and is enrolled in the RPA program through BOMA.

 


 
Edwin Buonanno
Property Manager

 

Edwin joined the Torgan Group in 2009. Prior to joining with Torgan, Edwin worked in the capacity of Senior Bilingual Technical Support Analyst with IBM. He then later made the transition to the commercial real estate field in the area of Property Management. He has then gone to accumulate several years of solid experience managing large portfolios made up of industrial, office and retail. Edwin holds a Computer Programmer Diploma from Sheridan College, a Network and Internet Support Specialist Diploma from CDI College, and a Spanish Language Diploma rom the University of Salamanca. He has further completed several real estate certificates such as IHM, and ACMO RCM and is now presently enrolled in the RPA program through BOMA.

 


 
Elan Azar
Property Manager

 

Elan Azar joined the Torgan Group in 2013. Elan began his property management career as a Marketing Director developing marketing campaigns for several strip plazas in Ontario. With over 20 years experience managing retail and commercial properties throughout the GTA and other locations in Ontario, Elan is extremely knowledgeable on the management and operations within these asset classes. Elan graduated from the International Council of Shopping Centre Management Program at Michigan State University and is a graduate of Seneca College with a Marketing and Business Administration Diploma. Elan has also received the International Merit Award for Creative Excellence for Newspaper Advertising through BOMA.

 


 
Andy Soczka
Building Operations Manager

 

Andy joined the Torgan Group in 2015. Prior to joining Torgan, he was working in the capacity of a Contracts/Construction Project Manager. He made a transition to the commercial real estate field in the area of the property management shortly thereafter. He has over 35 years of experience in the property and construction management field, more specifically in commercial, hotel, and industrial construction. Andy holds a Certificate in Construction Management from Technical University of Nova Scotia. He has further completed several additional courses in interpersonal communication skills which includes negotiation and administration of contracts.

 


 
Tim Li
Lease Administrator

 

Tim joined the Torgan Group in 1994. His responsibilities include the daily administration and liaison with tenants', preparation of lease agreements and budgeting. Prior to joining Torgan, Tim was the manager for a property management company that managed approx. 1000 residential tenants. Tim came to Canada from Hong Kong, where he was the Sales Manager of The Excelsior Hotel, the Mandarin Group. Tim has a BA in Communication from the University of Windsor.

 


 
Paul Brown
In-House Accountant

 

Paul joined the Torgan Group spring of 1995. His responsibilities include the preparation of working papers, projected cash flows and financial statements for various Torgan Properties as well as year-end adjustments for tenants. Prior to joining Torgan, Paul worked six years at a medium sized firm of Chartered Accountants in Markham, ON. In the mid-Seventies, Paul studied music at the University of Toronto, earning a Masters in Music Composition. Paul has appeared as a solo artist on CBC Television and CFTO TV.
